Alert Level 2: Update

At Alert Level 2 there is a low risk of community transmission and it provides us with a lot more opportunities to engage and connect with others. However, there are still a number of public health requirements we all need to follow. Please do continue to monitor your health and do not send your children to school if they are not well (and please seek advice about getting a COVID test).

Arriving and departing school – For all students arriving at school, we ask that they are dropped off at one of the gates where one of the staff members will be there to greet students and remind them to sanitize their hands. Students are not to enter the school grounds before 8.30am. If you have a new entrant student you are welcome to drop them to the classroom and help settle them in. The same will occur at the end of each day students will be farewelled at the gate and reminded to sanitize their hands on the way out.

All visitors are to report to the office when entering the school.

For us, all the required safety precautions for Alert Level 2 will be in place which includes following all the recommendations from the public health experts. This means we will regularly clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, encourage everyone to frequently wash their hands and cough and sneeze into their elbow.

While physical distancing is not a requirement in schools, we will be doing our best to keep students from congregating in very large numbers and keeping spaces well-ventilated.

Face coverings are not required to be worn in school. The Director-General of Health has recommended that children 12 years+ wear a face covering at school – just as older children are required to wear face coverings in some other places.  The decision to wear a face-covering is up to you and your whānau, whatever your decision it will be respected.

If you are not sure what all the rules are for alert level 2 when you are out and about, then the following information may be useful to you:

COVID Level 2 Information

Tue Sep 07 07:42pm

Kia ora e Te Whānau
School site opening- COVID Level 2
After the announcement by the Prime Minister yesterday, the Principals from our Kawerau schools have met to discuss what this would look like at Level 2 in Kawerau.
Returning to school will not be easy for any of us and the effect of lockdown will be diverse. There is a temptation to return back to normal as soon as possible but there is a fine line between getting back to normal and pausing to check that we are all ok.
Schools need to be geared up with a transition phase that supports all staff and students to return to school as smoothly as possible. As staff prepare to leave their own families to return to school and make ready the learning spaces and resources for our ākonga to ensure all safety protocols are adhered to…
So we are asking whānau, where able, to keep their students at home until Friday 10th September.
At Kawerau Putauaki School Level 2 looks like-
• Staff will be on site Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th Sept.
• Preparing spaces, equipment and grounds to be safe, ready for students
• We will reopen to students of all levels Friday 10th September
If you are wishing to have your child remain at home during level 2, please contact the school so we can mark their attendance accordingly on the roll.
Be aware that learning on-line and distributed hard copies will stop tomorrow, Wednesday 8th Sept and staff will restart teaching as per their normal programmes on Friday 10th Sept.
If your child has been in one of bubbles, or you have no other option on Thursday, please fill in the attached form to give us an idea of numbers. They will be supervised using the hard packs by Teaching Assistants (This allows the teachers to be prepared for Friday).
Here is the link to the google form
There are still a number of public health requirements we all need to follow. Please do continue to monitor your health and do not send your children to school if they are not well (seek advice about getting a COVID test).
We will update you further over the week as we receive MoE/ MOH guidelines on things such as-
• Mask wearing
• Social distancing- 2 metre rule
• School buses
• School trips/ camps
Stay safe, healthy and calm.

Hard Packs to collect

Fri Sep 03 12:15pm

Friendly reminder!

We still have hard packs at school waiting to be collected.

If you requested a pack, and haven’t come to get it yet – today is the day to do it!

Kia ora Kawerau Putauaki School whānau,

Sun Aug 29 02:22pm

With the move to Level 3 on Wednesday, we need to confirm how many students we will need to cater for at COVID-19 Alert Level 3, and how many learners need more hard copy work.
Please take the time to quickly fill in the survey.
I need to stress that school is not open for general learning, but literally to care for any child who’s parents have to work in Level 3 and have no other option for care.
Please fill this in asap… but by Monday 30th by 3pm at the latest so that we can arrange enough care and put the needed protocols in place for Wednesday.
Thank you again to everyone for playing your part. I know this is hard, and as much as you may want to send your child back to school, please please please keep us all safe and if you have any other option… keep them at home. If we don’t beat this Delta variant now we will be in lockdown for a lot longer.

Good afternoon on Day 2 of Lockdown.

We hope your bubble is doing well, and enjoying the unexpected break!

Like the last time, we are asking all whanau to click the link and complete the form, so we can see who has internet and devices for online learning, if our lockdown gets extended.

The more information we can get, the easier it is to do our best to get the assistance that is required, to have everyone online if and when required.

So, please complete this form, and then get back to enjoying Level 4, the best you can.

Keep up to date with information from the school on our Facebook page, or through our School App.

Seesaw is a platform for student engagement that inspires students of all ages to do their best, and saves teachers time! Students use creative tools to take pictures, draw, record videos and more to capture learning in a portfolio. Teachers find or create activities to share with students. The Seesaw platform is used for homework activities as well as in class work.
